The Flash spoilers follow.
In this week's episode of The Flash, titled 'Armageddon, Part 2', we found out that the major character Joe West had mysteriously died months earlier, off-camera.
It was confirmed by Caitlin Snow, who reminded Barry that "Joe died six months ago" when he suggested that they eat Joe's famous jambalaya after their victory. Later, Iris told Barry that he, in fact, delivered the eulogy.
We never actually saw Joe die on the show, but fans have speculated that this might potentially lead to Barry's meltdown, which was previously foretold by Despero.

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace spoke to TVLine about Joe and what we can expect from him in season 8, and, well, he played pretty coy.
"Let's just say that Joe is to get an incredibly different perspective on life, and it's going to lead him to, I think, a really big choice," he teased ahead of season 8.
"Everybody seems to think the big choice he made was last year, to put down his badge, but there is a much bigger choice coming his way in season eight that takes the character down a path that he didn't know he was on, but that will feel like it's the place he always needed to go," he continued.

Though Joe is mentioned as being dead, by multiple characters, even as Barry continues to deny it, fans will know that everything is not always as it seems on The Flash.
Maybe he isn't really dead? or maybe it's a manipulation of their minds at the hands of Despero or another Team Flash enemy? Perhaps he's being held captive somewhere, and Team Flash have been told Joe is dead as a way for their enemies to take over Earth?
There are so many options, and Wallace definitely seemed to choose his words pretty carefully, so we'll either have to work on the assumption that Joe really is gone or hope this is part of some overarching plot we don't understand yet.
The Flash airs on The CW in the US. Sky Showcase and NOW air the show in the UK.
