Elephant Castle – “Caught In A Twilight Zone”

/

“Caught In A Twilight Zone” is a recent track from Elephant Castle, continuing the hooky psych-forward rock sound evident on prior tracks “Cool To Be Unhappy” and “My Muse.” The Los Angeles-based project, from Phil Danyew, presents catching twists throughout; the title-referencing rise stands out, especially. The ensuing guitar and woodwind-y backing craft an enchanting feel thereafter, as does the soaring vocal elegance during the track’s peaks. An eerie synth-laden pull embraces the captivating conclusion. “Caught In A Twilight Zone” charms with its brisk, psych-friendly effervescence and knack for clever hooks.

“Last summer, I woke up in a park not knowing where I was,” Danyew says. “The hospital diagnosed me with a concussion and retrograde amnesia. I’m not quite the same and I still don’t know what happened. This song is about the parallels between hitting my brain against the ground and living through the dumpster fire that was 2020.”

“Caught In A Twilight Zone” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2021’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Psychedelic Rock.
