Hillary Clinton has coughing fit during Rachel Maddow interview

Hillary Clinton had a coughing fit during an appearance on the Rachel Maddow Show on Tuesday.

Clinton concluded a half-hour interview with Maddow by coughing uncontrollably and waving goodbye to the camera. Clinton began coughing while discussing the Texas heartbeat law which was passed this year, banning abortion in the state after a fetal heartbeat is detected.

“The Texas law, to me, seems fatally flawed with its method of enforcement,” Clinton said, after clearing her throat several times. “The Mississippi law may be a more direct threat,” Clinton added before having a coughing fit.

Maddow jumped in, trying to transition the conversation to a conclusion as Clinton continued coughing away from the microphone.

“I didn’t mean to jump in there in a way that surprised you,” she said while laughing. “It’s a real pleasure to have you,” Maddow said before plugging Clinton’s new book she co-wrote with Louise Penny titled State of Terror.

At the beginning of the interview, Maddow appeared to insult the former first lady, calling her “just a novelist.”

“We use this comically long set of titles to introduce you — presidential nominee, former first lady, former senator, former secretary of state — but now you’re just a novelist,” Maddow said grinning ear to ear.

Speculation about Clinton’s poor health was prominent during the 2016 election, during which she was defeated by Donald Trump. One of the most notable incidents related to Clinton’s apparent health problems occurred on Sept. 11, 2016, when she appeared to collapse into a van.
