What is “Friendsgiving” and Why is It So Important in Today’s Culture?

Fall is the start of the holiday season, and a lot of people plan to head home for the holidays. Unfortunately, some people won’t be able to spend time with their family for various reasons. If this is the case, you can always plan a Friendsgiving. So, what is Friendsgiving, and what is its importance in today’s culture?

What is Friendsgiving?

In January 2020, the term “Friendsgiving” was officially added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary. As you can see, the word was taken from the words “friends” and “Thanksgiving.” So, this popular term means spending Thanksgiving with your friends.

Like Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving doesn’t have an official date. Typically, a group of friends will plan their Friendsgiving before Thanksgiving. Some, on the other hand, celebrate this event on Thanksgiving, especially if they’re not planning to head home for the holidays.

The Importance of Friendsgiving

1. It’s a Great Way to Connect with Friends

One of the benefits of celebrating Friendsgiving is that it allows you to spend time and connect with your friends. Remember, most of us have busy schedules, so we don’t have ample time to get together with friends on a regular basis. Fortunately, you can use this event to reconnect with your besties and reminisce about the past.

2. Everyone will Contribute to the Event

Typically, our moms and grandmothers are the ones preparing the food and drinks that will be served on Thanksgiving. However, during Friendsgiving, everyone is responsible. As such, you have to prepare or buy a dish that you think will satisfy your friends. Remember, great food will make your Friendsgiving special; however, the activities you will do with your friends will make this event memorable. So, if you’re not a great cook, you don’t have to pressure yourself. The important thing is that you will show up.

3. It’s the Perfect Time to Start Making Traditions with Friends

Like Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving is also celebrated every year. As such, you’re making new traditions with your friends. So, if you’re missing some of your friends, you can always look forward to your yearly Friendsgiving.

Final Thoughts

As presented, Friendsgiving is an important event in today’s culture. This is especially true because a lot of people have lesser interactions with their friends. As such, Friendsgiving is a great way to reconnect with your old buddies. Plus, spending time with your friends is a great way to have fun and unwind, which will also benefit your mental and physical health.
