Beau Burrows is headed to Los Angeles.
The 2015 first-round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers announced on his personal Twitter account Tuesday evening that he has agreed to a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which will likely include a Spring Training invitation in March of 2022.
Burrow has pitched 17 and two-thirds innings of work during his major league career with 11 strikeouts, 11 walks, and a 10.70 ERA with eight home runs allowed.
The 6-foot-2, right-handed pitcher made his major league debut with the Tigers in 2020 and pitched 11 innings for both Detroit and Minnesota during the 2021 season with an ERA of 13.91 and a WHIP of 2.36 with eight strikeouts and allowed 16 hits, 18 runs and 10 walks. Burrow was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins on June 22 but elected for free agency earlier this month after being left off the Twins’ 40-man roster at the end of August.
The Fort Worth, Texas, product is viewed as a potential Double or Triple-A starter for the Dodgers to start the 2022 season and could work his way into a bullpen role with the Dodgers or a rotational spot starter throughout the season.
Burrows was originally viewed as one of the top pitching prospects in the Detroit Tigers organization along with Casey Mize and Matt Manning but his consistency issues at both the minor and major league levels left him outside of the rebuilding organization’s long-term plans.
