Layers of COVID-19 protection added for Thanksgiving gatherings
Thanksgiving arrives this year along with a new surge in COVID-19 cases and many are using several layers of protection to stay safe.
“Unfortunately, we’re seeing the numbers go up a little bit. hospitalizations are up,” said Hamilton County Health Department spokesman Mike Samet.
The Gravity COVID-19 testing facility in Covington was packed all day as people prepared to go to family gatherings.
“I just want to be safe before the holidays,” said one woman leaving the testing facility.
“I got my vaccine, but I want to be safe because I don’t want to get anybody else sick,” said a man who just got tested.
Health leaders said adding layers of protection can be effective at reducing the odds of transmission.
Testing is one layer, vaccinations and boosters are another. Many are planning smaller gatherings than pre-pandemic times to try to limit exposure to COVID-19.
“It’s very different. We used to have this big family gathering. We’re keeping it smaller this year,” said Savanah Posey.
