The county also reports 8 additional deaths.

One person was in the 25 to 49 age range.

On Tuesday, 480 cases were reported with one new death.

That death occurred in October and was in a person in the 65 and older group.

Speaking during the Allegheny County’s weekly COVID update, Dr. LuAnn Brink the county’s epidemiologist, said with the winter months coming and people spending more time inside, they expect the cases to continue to climb.

We are also learning more about breakthrough cases in those vaccinated.

“In October and November of 2021 there were about 7,700 COVID cases among vaccinated, this represented about 38 percent of our roughly 20,000 cases during this time frame,” said Dr. Brink.

Dr. Brink added that a vaccinated person is half as likely to catch the virus compared to those unvaccinated, with the vast majority of those who have died also being unvaccinated.

In the coming weeks, Dr. Brink says that their dashboard will be updated in a week or so to show who has been deemed a breakthrough case and who has been re-infected.

Dr. Brink says the best chance you have to fight COVID is to get your shot or booster, if eligible.
