Fans of The Beatles have a Thanksgiving weekend feast coming up, as “The Beatles: Get Back” streams On Disney Plus, beginning Thursday, Nov. 25. The three-part documentary series from director Peter Jackson (”The Lord of the Rings” trilogy), is built around nearly 60 hours of unseen footage from January 1969, when The Beatles were writing and recording songs for what was then planned as a live album, TV special and documentary.

(How to watch: Stream “The Beatles: Get Back” on Disney Plus. Access to Disney+ is $7.99 per month, or $79.99 per year. Also available is the Disney Bundle, which includes Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu. Choices include the Disney Bundle with ad-supported Hulu ($13.99 per month), or ad-free Hulu ($19.99 per month.)

A shorter version of some of the footage seen in “The Beatles: Get Back” was first seen in director Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s 1970 documentary film, “Let It Be,” which is generally remembered as a fairly downbeat chronicle of the tensions among members of the group, which culminated in The Beatles breaking up.

Jackson has said “The Beatles: Get Back” shows there was much more to these sessions than interpersonal disagreements, and that in this extensive footage, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr convey their years of friendship and collaboration as they work on songs, goof around, and joke with each other.

The documentary series promises to also show, for the first time in its entirety, the final live performance by John, Paul, George and Ringo as a group, when they took to a London rooftop.

When does “The Beatles: Get Back” premiere?: Part 1 begins streaming at about midnight (PT) Thursday, Nov. 25 on Disney+ (it premieres at 3 a.m. ET on Nov. 25). Part 2 begins streaming at midnight (PT) and 3 a.m. (ET on Friday, Nov. 26; Part 3 begins streaming at midnight (PT) and 3 a.m. (ET) on Saturday, Nov. 27.

How typical is “The Beatles: Get Back” of Disney+ programming?: As the late John Lennon might say, well, cats and kittens, a warning advises viewers that the documentary includes explicit language, mature themes and smoking. Those qualities alone are a bit different from such family-friendly Disney+ fare as movies and shows from Pixar, along with entries from the “Star Wars” and Marvel franchises.
