NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police have arrested a man in connection to a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed an 82-year-old man in Rockland County on Tuesday morning.
Haverstraw Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of 43-year-old Segundo Landi-Lucer of Queens. He was charged with criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in the death of Juan Alberto Germonsen, officials said.
Germonsen was a resident of a nearby assisted living facility was crossing Route 9W near Fairmount Avenue in Haverstraw shortly before 5 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle.
The victim was found lying in the roadway and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities believe he was crossing the street when he was hit.
Police described the suspect's vehicle as a silver or white Ford Explorer with dark rims and a moonroof.
Officials said the vehicle should be missing the passenger side mirror and have damage to the front passenger side bumper.
"My thanks to the Town of Haverstraw Police Department and the Town of Clarkstown Police Accident Reconstruction Team for their quick work processing the crime scene and to the NYPD and NYSP for their assistance in apprehending the suspect in this tragic case," County Executive Ed Day said in a statement. "It is my hope that the family of Juan Germosen can rest more easily tonight knowing the person allegedly responsible for his death is now behind bars and that justice will be quickly served in this case."
An investigation remains ongoing.
