Zach Wilson’s next start for the Jets appears to be news to one of his biggest fans: his mother, Lisa.
The rookie quarterback, 22, will return for Sunday’s game against the Texans after missing the past four outings due to a knee injury. Wilson’s mom celebrated the news Tuesday on her Instagram Story, adding her son may have not relayed the message.
“He forgot to tell me,” Lisa wrote alongside a laughing-face emoji. She had initially re-shared a post from the @jet_news Instagram account that reported Wilson’s return from The Athletic.
Wilson, the second overall pick in this year’s draft, got hurt in a Week 7 loss to the Patriots. He had been sidelined with a posterior cruciate ligament injury.
In Wilson’s absence, the Jets initially turned to unknown backup, Mike White, who shined in a Week 8 win over the Bengals. His Cinderella story came to an end following a blowout loss to the Bills in Week 10.
Veteran Joe Flacco got the nod ahead of last Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins. Both he and White were placed on the COVID-19/reserve list Tuesday. White tested positive. Flacco was deemed a close contact, and will miss the game due to his unvaccinated status.
Wilson’s family has been vocally supportive of the BYU product, even joining him on draft night in Cleveland back in April.
“So many amazing moments that you want to remember forever,” Lisa gushed on Instagram after the draft. “Not only did Zach work hard, his entire family made sacrifices in order for this moment to happen. His brothers and sisters are all so supportive of one another. It makes my heart happy.”
