BRIGHTON, Utah (ABC4) – A man who was involved in an accident at the Brighton Ski Resort has passed away, his family tells ABC4 in an exclusive interview.
The 61-year-old man suffered severe facial trauma which caused catastrophic brain injury while skiing with his son shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The man and his son were skiing in the White Snake Area by the Snake Creek Ski Run, where the ski resort was making snow. While the two were coming down near the snow machines, the snow covered their goggles and obscured their vision.
The man ran into a snowbank and as a result, suffered severe facial trauma. Emergency personnel performed CPR and other life-saving procedures before the man was airlifted to the University of Utah Hospital.
Police indicated that they thought the man had a medical episode but the family tells ABC4 that is not correct information.
He died shortly after reaching the ER.

BRIGHTON, Utah (ABC4) – A man is in extremely critical condition after an accident at Brighton Ski Resort.
Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Unified Police say a 61-year-old was skiing with his son in the White Snake Area by the Snake Creek Ski Run, where the ski resort is currently making snow.
While the father and son were coming down near the snow machines, the snow-covered their goggles and obscured their vision.
At that point, authorities say the man ran into a snowbank and suffered severe facial trauma. Police indicated that they thought the man had a medical episode but the family tells ABC4 that is not correct information.
Brighton Ski Patrol tended to the man for 30 minutes in the middle of a groomed run as they waited for emergency personnel to transport him by air to the University of Utah Hospital.
Once emergency personnel landed, paramedics performed CPR and other life-saving procedures for another 30 minutes to get the man stable enough for the flight.
Authorities say the man remains in extremely critical condition.
