KINGSTON, N.Y. — The 71-year-old man who city firefighters pulled from a burning Midtown apartment has died from his injuries, police said Wednesday.
Lt. John Tremper said the Kingston Police Department was notified about the man’s death by Westchester Medical Center on Tuesday.
The man’s name has not been provided.
The fire broke out about 9:15 p.m. Sunday in an apartment at the Brigham Senior Housing complex on O’Neil Street in Kingston. On Monday, city Fire Chief Chris Rea said the blaze was deemed accidental and that investigators had not “ruled out” smoking in bed as the cause.
The man was found on the floor next to the bed, Rea said.
The chief said the quick response by firefighters kept the blaze from spreading to other apartments in the complex.
