F1 Esports Pro Series 2021 Round 3 Starts Today; Mercedes and Red Bull Tied

The penultimate rounds of the 2021 F1 Esports Series Pro Championship will get underway today with both championship tables finely poised — and Mercedes and Red Bull tied for first in the constructor table.

With half of the races done, it’s Mercedes’ defending champion Jarno Opmeer who leads in the driver standings, but he’s not had it all his own way. After a strong first event, where he recorded two race wins, the second event saw Red Bull’s Frede Rasmussen and Marcel Kiefer lock out the top step between them in all three races.

Nonetheless, Opmeer has 101pt and a slender 14-point advantage over second-placed Lucas Blakeley, driving for Aston Martin. Like Opmeer, Blakeley has finished in the points in all six races thus far — with McLaren’s Bardia Boroumand the only other driver who can lay claim to that.

Meanwhile the strong week last time out for Red Bull has seen the team hit the top of the constructor championship but only on countback from Mercedes. The teams are tied on 140 points apiece, with Red Bull’s three wins to the two of Mercedes the only way to separate them.

With six races remaining, both championships are far too close to call right now, though realistically it’s Opmeer, Blakeley, or Rasmussen for the drivers’ title and Mercedes or Red Bull for the constructors. However

This week’s races visit three of the newer circuits in F1, with Portimao, Zandvoort, and COTA all up over the next two days. There’s qualifying sessions at 1530 UTC on November 24 for the races in Portugal and Netherlands, with COTA qualifying the same time on November 25. Each of the races follows later at 1930 UTC the same day.

Once this week’s racing is done there’ll be just three races left, on December 15 and 16. You can follow all the action live on the official F1 YouTube channel.
