Hopkinsville Trucker Cited In Five-Vehicle Illinois Crash

A Hopkinsville man was cited by Illinois State Police following a five-vehicle injury crash on I-24 in Massac County Monday afternoon.

Police said 28-year-old Antonio Wells of Hopkinsville was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer and failed to slow down for stopped traffic in an I-24 work zone on the Metropolis Bridge around 3:30 Monday. The report said Wells’ truck struck an RV in front of him which in turn, struck a third vehicle. Meanwhile, another tractor-trailer driven by Peter Primbetov of Washington state also failed to slow down and struck the rear of Wells’ truck and a fifth vehicle.

An 18-year-old who was in the fifth vehicle was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.

Illinois State Police cited both Wells and Primbetov for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
