PBS Announces Broadcast Slate for Great Performances at the Met’s ‘New Year’s Eve Gala’ & Holiday Concert with Bryn Terfel

PBS has announced that it will start broadcasting two Great Performances at the Met this December and January.

First up will “Bryn Terfel & Friends in Concert,” which will premiere on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021 at 12 p.m. on New York’s THIRTEEN. The concert, which was recorded in December 2020 will feature the famed bass-baritone as he performs holiday favorites such as “Silent Night,” “O Holy Night,” and “O Come All Ye Faithful,” as well as music from Lerner and Loewe’s “Little Prince,” and Wagner’s “Tannhäuser.”

Then on Jan. 2, 2022 at 12 p.m., audiences will get a chance to see the “New Year’s Eve Gala” starring Angel Blue, Pretty Yende, Javier Camarena, and Matthew Polenzani. That concert, which took place in Augsburg, Germany featured the quartet of singers performing major pieces from the standard operatic repertory.

Over the last year, PBS has been broadcasting concerts that the Met Opera presented throughout 2020 and 2021. Among the artists featured in the series were Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, Sondra Radvanovsky, Sonya Yoncheva, and Joyce DiDonato, among others.
