Former President Donald Trump slammed President Biden’s energy policy in an interview Tuesday, calling it “nonsense” and accusing the administration of wanting to “replace clean fossil fuels.”
“Natural gas is very clean, but it’s powerful,” the 45th president told Fox News’ Sean Hannity. “It can take care of and fuel our country, and they want to replace it with wind. Wind, where they spend billions and billions of dollars in subsidy … I mean, it’s just unbelievable.”
Trump also slammed the Biden administration over its handling of the economy, particularly its efforts to combat rising prices.
“What’s happening now to prices is many times more than any possible tax increase that anybody could get,” he said.
“But on top of that, in this new bill, they want big tax increases — people are gonna pay massive tax increases,” Trump added, referring to the House-passed Build Back Better Act. “And I’m not talking about the wealthy, I’m talking about everybody.”
Democrats are hoping to ram the nearly $2 trillion legislation through the 50-50 Senate without Republican support. However, moderate Senate Democrats like Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona have expressed concerns about certain provisions in the bill, as well as the level of spending.
The White House has insisted that the potential tax increases would only affect the wealthiest Americans and that no one making less than $400,000 per year would see their tax bill rise.
Earlier Tuesday, the Biden administration announced the release of 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an effort to combat rising gasoline prices.
However, Biden himself admitted that afternoon that the move “will not solve the problem of high gas prices overnight.”
“It will take time,” Biden acknowledged, “but before long you should see the price of gas drop where you fill up your tank.”
As of Wednesday, the nationwide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $3.40, approximately $1.28 more than at this time last year, according to AAA.
