Amazon Studios and EA are reportedly in talks to develop a brand new TV series based on the critically acclaimed sci-fi RPG franchise Mass Effect.

According to reports, Amazon Studios have a major interest in the Mass Effect franchise and are very close to agreeing a deal with EA to produce a TV series based on the sci-fi RPG series from Bioware and EA.

"One of the company’s newest hopefuls in the arena is Mass Effect. Amazon Studios is nearing a deal to develop a series based on the best-selling sci-fi video game franchise from Electronic Arts," Deadline reports.

The details about the deal are pretty scarce at the moment but if Amazon Studios indeed get to work on the franchise, we assume it's a live-action TV series featuring the beloved characters from the iconic trilogy such as Commander Shepard, Ashley, Garrus, Liara, Wrex, Kaidan and others.

According to the report, off the success of the recently released Wheel of Time, Amazon Studios are keen to continue developing fantasy series and see the Mass Effect franchise as the perfect fit to expand their portfolio of TV series.

EA Mass Effect

More details about the potential partnership between Amazon Studios and EA and the TV series are expected in 2022, when we could be getting an official announcement and perhaps first casting information.

In case you are not familiar with Mass Effect, it's a shooter RPG series developed by Bioware and published by EA. The story is set in an alternate universe where humans have discovered other alien civilisations and colonised the Milky Way galaxy using the advanced technology known as a mass relay, which allows interstellar travel.
