Real Madrid fans know that Zinedine Zidane isn’t coming back for a third time after he stepped down at the end of a taxing 2020-2021 season. But Madridistas always have a soft spot for Zidane. The last thing many want to see is him betraying his birth city of Marseille and going against something he said only a few years ago by taking the PSG job.

Manchester United had interest in Zidane as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s replacement, but that was never going to happen. So the most steam has picked up with linking Zizou’s name to the PSG job, as the Ligue 1 giants are interested in hiring him as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement.

Aside from the fact that Poch does not seem to get along with Leonardo and the hierarchy, as Thomas Tuchel struggled with before, he may be more interested in the United job. A return to the Premier League would be possible, and PSG could even push him out to hire Zidane.

It is a merry-go-round of rumors, but it all seems to make sense. That is, of course, until you realize that Zidane does indeed seem poised to stick to his guns and turn down PSG.

Zinedine Zidane still seems to want to wait for the France dream

According to a report from Jorge C. Picon of AS, Zinedine Zidane doesn’t want the PSG job right now. The club has been trying to convince the Real Madrid (and Juventus…and Bordeaux) legend to take the position, but Zizou wants to wait.

There are two suggested reasons. Firstly, he does not want to take a job in the middle of the season (even though he has successfully done this on multiple occasions, albeit in much more familiar circumstances in Madrid). Secondly, he is reportedly thinking of other projects. Surely, the French national team remains his dream. Taking the PSG job would seem to get in the way of that.

The interest from Paris/Qatar in Zizou is unsurprising. Not only would they be getting the best manager in Champions League history to help finally bring the title to this sportswashing project, but they would also get someone who could increase their chances of keeping Kylian Mbappe by some single-percentage margin.

Zidane does not seem interested. Real Madrid fans, for now, can breathe easy, though this does not completely rule out a different change of events. There were always strong reasons for the legendary midfielder to reject PSG, and it seems like a few of those have come into play, based on this report. Madridistas really don’t want to see him at a club that has now become a rival for Madrid, particularly not when there is even a minuscule chance it could influence Mbappe’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
