For her introduction to SoulTracks, Essosa pushes the tempo on the World Premiere of “Lemonade,” blending disco funk beats and bass grooves without forsaking the trademark dreamy synthesizers from Dreamworld.
While the song’s storyline focuses on dealing with relationship heartbreaks, Essosa embraces her dance skills on “Lemonade” in a full-on disco setting - complete with flashing lights and a mirror ball. And while celebrating in the ballroom, Essosa releases the stress by confronting her lover with ultimate disdain: “How dare you look at me in the eye/Tell me everything’s alright.”
Through a very short artistic season, this powerful triple threat has plenty to say in her understated soulful way. Listen up to “Lemonade.”
