The Massachusetts State Police are asking for the public’s help after they say a group of people riding dirt bikes and ATVs surrounded an 82-year-old man in Boston last week, threw rocks at his car and attacked him physically as he put his window down.

The victim, a resident of Brookline, suffered serious injures and remains hospitalized but is expected to recover, police said.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18, the victim was driving a 1996 Buick Century from Park Drive to Boylston Street, when he saw about 35 dirt bikes and ATVs approaching him, police said.

The off road vehicles forced the victim onto the curb on the right-hand side of the road and several of them began smashing the windows of his car, police said.

The victim then was able to drive away toward Storrow Drive westbound with the intention of getting to a police station for help. However, police said, several of the dirt bikes and ATV riders followed him and began kicking and punching the Buick again.

The victim attempted to drive evasively to get away from the rider and took the Cambridge Street off-ramp by the DoubleTree hotel in Allston, but traffic caused him to stop, police said.

The victim rolled his window down to ask others to call for help. While his window was down, police said one of the riders, a man, approached the victim and began punching him through the open window.

At the same time, other riders continued to kick the victim’s car, police said. One of the suspects threw a piece of pipe through the car’s rear window. Another threw a large rock through one of the car windows, police said.

Eventually, the 82-year-old man turned on to Cambridge Street in Allston and arrived at Joe’s Kwik Market, where he got out of his car and fell to the ground, police said. Boston EMS responded and transported him to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center.

Police ask that anyone who witnessed this incident or parts of it, or who saw the group of dirt bike and ATV riders or has information about them, to call them.

Anyone who may have captured cell phone footage of the group or the incident, or who called 911 to report the incident is also asked to call police.

Anyone who has any such information, photos or footage or who called 911 that night is asked to call the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County at 617-727-8817.
