NEW YORK — Commuters who rely on the Long Island Rail Road to commute were warned of service disruptions for the Wednesday morning rush due to a broken rail.

According to the MTA, the broken rail was in one of the East River Tunnels.

The MTA said around 8:20 a.m. that crews had completed repairs and that there might be some residual delays due to the incident.

The agency initially said around 5:40 a.m. that there might be some delays, train cancellations and diversions because of the broken rail.

The general alert initially was in place for all of the LIRR branches early Wednesday morning.
