‘Opera as Opera’ Lands Distribution Deal

By David Salazar

Conrad Osborne’s “Opera as Opera” will soon be available for worldwide retail.

The lengthy tome, which was self-published back in 2018, will be available for distribution in libraries, retail chains like Barnes & Noble, performance venues, local bookstores, and even on Amazon.

“The response to ‘Opera as Opera’ has been wonderfully gratifying”, Osborne said in an official statement, “but the matter of its limited accessibility has been frustrating. I’m delighted we have forged a partnership with the distributor best poised to address that problem.”

“Opera as Opera” is a lengthy work that explores why Osbourne feels that opera as an art form is in a state of decline.

“For a little over 100 years now, we haven’t been adding to the canonical repertory with any degree of success at all,” Osborne noted in an interview with OperaWire about one the central issues the artform faces today. ““[Sometimes you run into] compelling passages and scenes, but in terms of adding up to a whole piece that I want to see or hear again or get the score, I don’t ever come away feeling that. Occasionally, I wonder if a different cast or different conductor and director, I wouldn’t mind seeing what might be brought out of it. But that’s as far as I get.”
