The Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets are two of the worst teams currently in the NBA. They are both amid rebuilds, as the rosters of both franchises have been torn down and are in the process of being rebuilt.

When Detroit hired Troy Weaver to take over as general manager, he cleaned house. He was hired on June 18th, 2020. In 18 months, he has cleared the roster of everyone he inherited. Killian Hayes, who was the team’s first of three first-round draft picks in the 2020 NBA Draft, is the longest-tenured player on the roster.

Houston was chasing championships not too long ago with Mike D’Antoni coaching a team led by James Harden with Chris Paul and Russell Westbrook as his point guards.

Once Harden was traded last season, the teardown was officially underway. Houston cemented that fact when they selected four teenagers in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Given the routes each organization has taken, the results aren’t too shocking. Detroit is right near the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a record of 4-12, struggling mightily on the offensive side of the ball.

Houston is actually worse. They are 1-16 and will likely be within striking distance of recording the fewest wins and lowest win percentage in a season in NBA history. Ownership knew things would be tough, but to be that bad is surprising.

Could the two teams come together on a trade as a result? Here is a hypothetical trade that would send Christian Wood back to The Motor City.
