FREEPORT, Fla. -- Walton County Fire Rescue firefighters say they saved a resident's home and her three family dogs Tuesday night -- two days before Thanksgiving.
Firefighters were dispatched to Bayou Circle in Freeport at 6:00 p.m. following a 911 call where a neighbor reported hearing smoke detectors going off inside the home.
Firefighters made their way into the home and safely removed three dogs from the home.
Firefighters say they discovered a fire in a bathroom of the home that was spreading through the ceiling and into the attic.
Firefighters say they were able to isolate the fire, keeping it from damaging a majority of the home.
The homeowner was notified and arrived on scene a short time later and was given contact information for American Red Cross. The fire was caused by an electrical issue in the bathroom’s exhaust fan.
