DICE plans major bug fixing updates to Battlefield 2042

Today, EA studio DICE published a blog post to give an update on the ongoing work being done on Battlefield 2042, which released globally last week in a less than ideal state. Alongside server-side changes for stability, the studio will be pushing out at least two bug fixing updates before 2022, with another planned tentatively for deployment before the holidays.

The first of these planned updates will be hitting the game on Thursday November 24, targeting aspects like gun accuracy, soldier revives not working, overpowered vehicles (Hovercraft and Nightbird), respawn blocking bug, UAV-1 interaction in Portal"s Bad Company 2, and a few more areas.

It"s the following update that is the big one. Dropping in early December, it will carry a massive number of bug fixes and quality of life enhancements. DICE shared a snapshot of the changes included in it on its blog post here, which contains hundreds of fixes and improvements targeting the UI, matchmaking, progression, map glitches, graphics issues, all main game modes, and more.

Some of the highlights include showing nearby revive kit-carrying players when downed, icons above heads of players carrying extra ammo or health packs, weapon attachment customization improvements, and Rush mode for 2042 maps via Portal.

Improvements to performance and fixes for aiming inconsistencies across PC and consoles are being worked on internally too. DICE also said it is "carefully evaluating" requests made by the community to bring back legacy features such as a traditional scoreboard, server browser, and voice chat. It will share more details on these topics at a later date.

While no exact player numbers were shared, the studio said Battlefield 2042 already has millions of players, almost doubling what was seen with Battlefield V"s release in 2018. The upcoming Season 1 content will be detailed in early 2022.

Battlefield 2042 is now available across PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Check out our review of the game here, where it received a 6.5/10 mostly due to its major bug problem.
