Just weeks after the release of their debut self-titled album, nascent Aussie supergroup Springtime have announced a 2022 tour of Australia.
Making their official debut earlier this year, Springtime comprises three of Australia’s most revered musicians, including Gareth Liddiard (The Drones, Tropical Fuck Storm), Jim White (Xylouris White, Dirty Three, PJ Harvey), and Chris Abrahams (The Necks). Together, the three storied musicians create a stunning combination which not only transcends genres, but showcases their worth as some of the finest artists in the country today.
“I love this shit. It’s as monstrously ravishing as it is clumsy in its elegance. Words run into each other with little regard for one another’s injuries,” wrote The Jesus Lizard frontman David Yow. “There are sounds who come out of nothingness to wallop and brutalize their fellow sounds.
“This Springtime record is so full of strange wanderings that are broken and piled up on themselves that the heads have no idea where their tails are,” he adds. “These three gentlemen work, play and improvise together in an emotionally volatile universe. You could call it ‘jazz’, but that word is way too jazzy for what Springtime creates. There is no pompous audacity. No terrible flagrancy. Their music is heartfelt. It’s important.”
While this testimonial was indeed a powerful critique of their work, Springtime have themselves been eager to head out on the road and share their work with fans. Now, they’ve announced a highly-anticipated Australian tour, set to kick off next year.
Joined by Grace Cummings at most shows, Springtime will perform dates in theatres across the country, including Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Perth, with a handful of regional shows complemented by a appearance at the WOMADelaide festival in March.
