Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. named to All-MLB first team
National League’s home-run leader named to All-MLB first team at shortstop for second year in a row
Fernando Tatis Jr. did not walk away with the biggest trophy this offseason. He is, however, still collecting postseason accolades.
The 22-year-old Padres shortstop on Tuesday was named to the All-MLB first team for the second year in a row after leading the NL with 42 homers despite missing time to three stints on the injured list.
Tatis also stole 25 bases, making him one of 15 players ever to hit at least 42 homers and steal at least 15 bases in a season.
Tatis’ .611 slugging percentage was the second-highest in the majors behind NL MVP Bryce Harper.
Last week, Tatis finished third in NL MVP voting, following up on last year’s fourth-place finish.
Padres closer Mark Melancon, now a free agent, was not named to either the first or second team despite leading the majors with 39 saves. He struck out 59 batters against 25 walks over 64 2/3 innings (2.23 ERA) with the Padres.
