When Celtic appointed Ange Postecoglou in the summer, it is safe to say that a large part of the fanbase was not very excited. At the end of the day, he did not have much experience in European football before arriving at Parkhead, although he did enjoy a lot of success in both Japan and Australia. But many felt a bit disappointed after the club had been linked with Eddie Howe for months before it ultimately did not end up transpiring.

It is safe to say that things have turned out quite well for the club since then though. Ange Postecoglou has come in and quickly become a fan favourite. And Celtic find themselves in a terrific run of form at the moment, having won eight of their previous nine games.

Another manager that the Hoops had been linked with during the summer was Enzo Maresca. He had had spells as assistant manager at several clubs before impressing with the Manchester City under-23 side.

But he ended up joining Parma. And it is safe to say that things have not gone as the Italian would have envisioned, as the club have struggled. And as tweeted out by journalist Nicolo Schira, he is set to be sacked:

Celtic appear to have avoided major managerial mistake in the summer

Now, it is impossible to tell how things could have gone if Celtic had appointed Maresca in the summer. They are completely different situations and we will never know.

But at the moment, it does feel like most fans are happy with the choice that the club made in bringing in Postecoglou, who is already being seen as the man who can eventually take them back to the top of Scottish football.

Celtic took a huge step in that direction this weekend by beating St Johnstone, to book their place in the Scottish League Cup final.
