Review: Marvel's HAWKEYE Series Is Off to a Fun and Entertaining Start

At long last, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye finally gets his own MCU solo story in the form of an action adventure series on Disney+ titled Hawkeye. I’ve always enjoyed the character and the story ark that he had over the course of the Marvel films that we was a part of, and that story arc continues with this new series and it also introduces us to a whole new character! That character is Kate Bishop and she is played by Hailee Steinfeld.

I’ve been excited about watching this show, and one of the main reasons that I’ve been excited is the fact that it’s set during the holidays. This is a Christmas-set Marvel story, and it seems like such a perfect fit for this character.

Well, I recently had the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of the show, and it’s a great start to what is sure to be a fantastic series. These first two episodes pretty much set the groundwork for the story and they introduce us to all the main players in.

The show gets audiences caught up with what Clint Barton has been up to since the events of Avengers: Endgame and how he’s handling the insane experiences that he went through. The show also offers a background on Kate Bishop and the kind of life she’s led. It shows us why she’s such a Hawkeye fangirl and how the former Avenger inspired her life journey. The episodes also cover how the two eventually meet and team up.

I won’t spoil any story details for you, but the two end up involved in a criminal conspiracy, and they have to figure out what is going on in the shadows and at the same time they are forced to survive an onslaught bad guys who are coming after them. Clint’s main goal is to get back to his family for Christmas, but it’s not going to be an easy task for him under the circumstances.

I enjoyed the first couple episodes of Hawkeye. They are a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the story will play out of the course of the season. I’m also excited to see how this will set up the future of Hawkeye and Kate Bishop in the MCU.

The series also stars Vera Farmiga as Kate's mother Eleanor; Fra Fee as Kazi, which is short for Kazimierz Kazimierczak, a.k.a. Clown; Tony Dalton is Duquesne, a.k.a. Swordsman, Alaqua Cox is Echo, and Zahn McClarnon is playing Kate’s father, William Lopez. Florence Pugh also returns to the role of Yelena Belova from Black Widow.

The show was developed by head writer Jonathan Igla. Troop Zero directors Bert and Bertie, a.k.a. Amber Finlayson (Bert) and Katie Ellwood (Bertie), and Saturday Night Live and Comrade Detective director Rhys Thomas have been hired to helm some episodes of the upcoming Disney+ Hawkeye series.
