Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 receive December 2021 security patches thanks to One UI 4 Beta 3

The Galaxy S21 lineup was the first non-Pixel set of devices to receive the final version of Android 12, and Samsung’s 2021 foldable lineup appears to be next. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 have now been updated to the third beta version of One UI 4 based on Android 12. With this update, Samsung has already included the December 2021 security patch, a whole eight days before we even get into December.

According to those who have received the update over at XDA Developers, One UI 4 Beta 3 doesn’t include any other major changes to the software. Instead, this update seems to provide the latest security patch along with random bug fixes.

This may be a bit of a disappointment, but it’s really a good thing. With Samsung now focusing on bug fixes for its foldable phones, it likely means that we are just that much closer to the final release of Android 12. This would help Samsung reach its self-imposed goal of releasing Android 12 for the Fold 3 and Flip 3 in December, so we’ll likely see one more beta release before the final version begins rolling out to the masses.

From a customization perspective, One UI 4 looks to be a dream. While it doesn’t include Google’s Material You theming engine, Samsung has implemented something very similar, as a color palette can be used to customize and change how your Home Screen looks and feels. We also get the more rounded corners for widgets that Google added with Android 12, along with various optimizations to make your phone run better and smoother for years to come.

It’s so refreshing to see Samsung pushing these releases so soon after Google releases a new version of Android. We’re a far cry from the TouchWiz days, and it’s made Android smartphones better on the whole. Now, we just need more phone makers to follow suit and provide more frequent updates.
