Kelly Ripa has some very strong opinions about what time to cut the turkey this Thursday.
On Friday's Live with Kelly and Ryan, Kelly took the time to share her thoughts on an Atlantic article that boldly declared that the proper time to have Thanksgiving dinner is four in the afternoon. In short, the author argues that 2 p.m. is too early and the late afternoon is perfect, considering it takes multiple hours for the turkey to cook in the oven and no one likes getting up early to begin prepping. What's more, the writer believes a 7 p.m. dinner time doesn't allow for a proper post-turkey nap and time to digest before the eating of the leftovers commences.
Reflecting on this argument, Kelly couldn't help but disagree. "Thanksgiving dinner is dinner which means it should happen at dinner time," the cohost claimed, also declaring that "dinner should be late!"
Apparently, the early afternoon timeline is off the table in Kelly and husband Mark Consuelos's household. "I do not understand everyone's obsession with having Thanksgiving dinner at 2 p.m.," Kelly began. "Then you're hungry at 6 p.m and 7 p.m. and 8 p.m, and then you're eating, and then you're binging, and then you're having leftovers."
In the end, guest star Kevin Hart and cohost Ryan Seacrest understood Kelly's reasoning ... though Ryan admitted that he eats Thanksgiving dinner at 2:30 in the afternoon.
"You eat at 2:30 p.m.? Are you kidding? Dinner is at like eight. We eat at 8 p.m.! And before that, you drink!" Kevin shot back at Ryan. "I really got upset right now! I will literally fight you! Oh my God, I would be so upset."
Of course, Kelly felt vindicated after seeing Kevin's outrage. "Thank you, I am validated today because these monsters all are like, '2 p.m!'" Kelly joked. "When I send out the email, 'Cocktails at 6 p.m.' people are like, '6 p.m.? We're going to have to eat early!'"
On an Instagram clip of the conversation, fans watching at home started weighing in — and not surprisingly, the discussion has ignited quite the debate. "2:00pm because the Dallas Cowboys play at 3pm!!," one fan wrote. "Apps and drinks starting at 4…… dinner approximately 6:30!," another said.
The world may never agree on this age-old Thanksgiving debate, but that's okay.
