Jonas Brothers Family Roast

If there is anything to be learned from the Jonas Brothers Family Roast on Netflix, other than some new details about the guys’ genitals, it’s that Niall Horan is basically an honorary member of the group now and I’m fully here for it.

Ok, so there are a few other things to be learned. One is that it IS possible to do a wholesome roast that comes with enough bite to make a mark, but not a permanent one. Kenan Thompson is good at everything, as we already know, and this hosting gig was no exception. Pete Davidson is funny, maybe a quality we don’t talk about enough when we’re gossiping about his personal life. Jack Whitehall and Lily Singh did a great job, and I’m going to have that John Legend song stuck in my head for days. I’d also like to say for the record that Joe Jonas’s solo album Fastlife remains severely underrated. Also for the record, as much as I love these guys, it should be stated that they all married up, and I’d bet they know it. Their wives did just as great of a job slagging them off as they did in supporting them.

But let’s take a moment to appreciate a partnership I didn’t see coming, but now need to see more of it, and that is their friendship with Niall. No stranger to the dynamics of being in a band with other guys, it only makes sense that Niall would get along with, relate to, and love making fun of these bros. Our first proof of that came at the end of the summer when, as part of his Jimmy Kimmel Live hosting gig, Niall shot a segment with Kevin, Joe, and Nick during a golf outing. All four certainly share a sense of humor about themselves as well and have no problem putting it on display.

Which only became cemented in boy band history with this new Netflix special, as it found the guys goofing around in another athletic endeavor. This time, Joe and Niall dressed up, with Niall going the extra mile of implementing an impressive Australian accent, as they taught a spin class to confused bikers in a parking garage. All of the guys fed ridiculous lines into earpieces to be repeated and then got a real kick out of watching the whole experience go down. I now invite you to join me in admitting, I (and my big biking bubble booty) could watch it all day.

While the whole Netflix special was a lot of giggle-filled fun and a real treat for fans, I especially loved this Niall segment because it showed how all four guys understand: boy band fans are the only ones allowed to make fun of boy band members, except of course the actual boy band members themselves. Joking about rivalries and good looks and looking like fools is funny when we do it, but even more hilarious when they do. A family roast is one thing, but let’s bring on the FAN roast next.
