Dustin Poirier and The Good Fight Foundation are going big with the charity goal attached to December’s UFC 269 title fight.

Poirier (28-6 MMA, 20-5 UFC), who will challenge Charles Oliveira (31-8 MMA, 19-8 UFC) for the lightweight title in the main event of the Dec. 11 pay-per-view at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, has been auctioning off his fight-worn gear for the past several years with the profits going toward a specific goal set by his charity.

For UFC 269, Poirier’s The Good Fight Foundation has teamed up with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide 300,000 meals for families in South Louisiana, which is Poirier’s home state.

Poirier will auction off his fight-worn gear following UFC 269, but additional donations can be made via the Second Harvest Food Bank website in conjunction with The Good Fight Foundation. A $25 donation will provide 100 meals, $50 provides 200 meals, $100 provides 400 meals and $250 generates 1,000 meals.

“Our goal is to provide 300,000 meals to families in need,” Poirier said. “Second Harvest not only helps out my hometown of Lafayette, but they serve communities across 23 parishes with access to food and disaster relief following the immediate aftermath of storms as well as long-term recovery year round.

“With rising food prices, a monetary gift is the most efficient way to help Second Harvest ensure families across South Louisiana have a meal for the holiday. $1 can help Second Harvest provide four meals to the moms, dads, and children in need.”

In addition to the Second Harvest Food Bank goal, The Good Fight Foundation has several other ongoing projects. On Wednesday, a Thanksgiving Food Drive will take place at Prejean’s Restaurant in Lafayette from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. local time that will offer up to 300 meals for this week’s holiday.

The Good Fight Foundation is also set to donate Christmas gifts to The Hub Lafayette, which provides housing for families in need of shelter. There are currently 130 adult and 40 child residents with The Hub, and The Good Fight Foundation will brighten their holidays.

Additionally, The Good Fight Foundation is currently working with Beat The Streets’ “Gear Up” campaign, which works to fund wrestling gear for 3,000 youth athletes who are struggling to purchase it themselves.

Poirier has used his fight career to help elevate The Good Fight Foundation. He’s attached charity goals to each of his fights, with his philanthropic efforts including building water wells to repair a ruined water supply at an orphanage and school in Uganda, building a playground for special needs children, supplying backpacks for more than 500 schoolchildren, providing transportation and tutoring for struggling youth through The Boys & Girls Club of Acadiana, plus much more.

Poirier’s efforts have not gone unnoticed in the MMA community. In September, Poirier was honored at the UFC Hall of Fame ceremony with the inaugural “Forrest Griffin Community Award” to acknowledge his work.
