The train hit the truck at a crossing at Soto and Market streets at about 8 p.m. Due to the impact, the train’s engine derailed and caused a massive wreck at the site.

"A tracker trailer carrying vehicles got high centered on the railroad tracks and got struck," Rodeo/Hercules Fire Battalion Chief Darren Johnson told the station. "They couldn’t get the tracker off the tracks prior to the train coming through. The train hit the tracker, all the cars came off the vehicle."

Around 30 passengers were on board the train at the time, and were transported via bus to the closest Amtrak station to resume their journey.

Authorities are investigating the crash and Union Pacific workers are clearing the area.
