THE ACREAGE — An 18-year-old West Palm Beach-area man died early Tuesday when his vehicle landed in a canal in The Acreage, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

Paramedics declared Adrian Phillip Moncrieffe Jr. dead at the scene of the crash, on Apache Boulevard just south of 78th Place North, according to PBSO's crash report.

An 18-year-old woman who was a passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries in the wreck, which took place just after 12:45 a.m.

The crash report said Moncrieffe was driving south on Apache in a 2006 Cadillac STS "at a high rate of speed" and did not stop when it came to a dead end just north of the canal.

The front end of the sedan struck the south bank as it tried to vault across the canal, causing the vehicle to flip over and hit the embankment with its roof, PBSO said.

Paramedics took the passenger in the vehicle to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach, according to the crash report.
