How Many Devices Can Stream Hulu at Once?

Accounts start at 2 streams, but if you're willing to pay more you can a lot get more

What to Know

  • All Hulu plans allow for streams on a max of 2 screens at once.
  • The Unlimited Screens Add-on ($9.99/month) allows unlimited streams on your home network and up to 3 streams outside of home network.
  • Downloading and watching content offline on mobile devices isn’t affected by the limit.

Hulu can be streamed to more than one device at a time on a single account, but your limit depends on your subscription package and add-ons. This article explains profile limits on Hulu, as well as how to watch Hulu on multiple devices, how to share Hulu with family members, and what add-ons are available for purchase.

How Many Devices Can Be Logged Into Hulu at Once?

Hulu lets you activate your account on an unlimited number of devices, but you can only actively stream from 2 of them at the same time. This means if you try to stream Hulu on more than 2 screens simultaneously, you’ll encounter an error message.

If you need to stream on more screens, Hulu offers an Unlimited Screen Add-on for Live TV subscribers. This costs an additional $9.99/month and lets you stream on an unlimited number of devices at the same time. The caveat is these devices must be connected to your home network. If you want to connect from a different network, you’ll be restricted to 3 device streams.

The Unlimited Screen Add-on is available on Hulu Live TV subscriptions only. If you have a Hulu or Hulu (No Ads) plan, you’ll need to upgrade to Live TV first before you can purchase the add-on.

Premium network add-ons also operate a bit differently. If you subscribe to Max, Cinemax, SHOWTIME, or STARZ through Hulu, you can stream content from these networks on up to 5 screens simultaneously. Up to 3 of these screens can be devices outside of your home network.

Can I Share My Hulu Account?

Hulu only allows up to 6 user profiles on a single account. Profiles provide unique viewing history and content recommendations for each user. If someone has your login credentials, they can use any profile they like to stream content.

The easiest way to add a Hulu profile is to log in to your account on a desktop computer and follow these steps:

  1. Hover over the dropdown menu in the top-right corner and select Manage Profiles.

Accessing Manage Profiles option on Hulu desktop.
  2. Select Profiles > Edit Profiles > Add Profile.

Adding a profile on Hulu desktop.
  3. Fill in the profile details and select Create Profile to confirm.

Tips for Using Your Hulu Account Offline

Although you can’t stream Hulu on more than 2 screens at once on a standard account, you can still watch Hulu-sourced content by downloading videos to watch offline. Watching content offline does not count towards the 2 screen limit.

To do this, you’ll need to be subscribed to Hulu (No Ads) or Hulu + Live TV (No Ads), as well as a supported mobile device. Downloadable content is unavailable on the basic Hulu plan with ads.

While not all Hulu content is downloadable, the platform includes a search filter so you can easily find downloadable movies and TV episodes. All you need to do is log in to Hulu on your mobile device, tap Search > Downloadable. Swipe through the available titles and tap the Download icon to save the video for offline viewing.

Hulu places the following restrictions on downloaded content:

  • A maximum of 25 downloads on 5 supported devices. This is set at the account level, which means you have 25 total downloads—not 25 per user profile.
  • Unwatched downloads expire after 30 days.
  • Once playback starts, you have 48 hours to finish watching before the download expires. However, you can renew expired content by downloading the same content again.

Can You Kick Someone Off of Hulu?

Since Hulu’s simultaneous streams are quite restrictive (even with the Unlimited Screen Add-on), you may find yourself unable to use your account when too many other people are streaming at the same time. This is not only annoying but potentially dangerous if you don’t know who else is using your account. Fortunately, there are a few ways you can kick someone off of Hulu.

The first method involves removing individual devices from your account. Under Account, select Manage Devices. You can find it next to Add Your Devices.

Selecting Manage Devices from Hulu Account settings.

A list of devices that have been used to log into your account will appear. Click REMOVE next to the device to remove it from your account.

You also have the option of logging all devices out of your account, which is useful if someone you don’t know has your login credentials. You can find this option under Account > Privacy And Settings > Protect Your Account

Selecting Manage Devices from Hulu Account settings.

Click Log Out Of All Devices to confirm and be sure to change your password if you need to keep someone from accessing your account in the future.
