Mad fake mode.

There were potential changes on the table for WoW Classic’s Season of Mastery that didn’t get implemented, and one of them seems almost like a no-brainer: applying the Volcanic affix to the enemies inside of Molten Core. I mean, it’s literally a volcano. But a new interview from Countdown to Classic with lead WoW Classic developer Brian Birmingham reveals that the designers were ultimately happy with the feedback received regarding the actual changes to Molten Core, so more sever changes weren’t necessary, even though the seasonal server team has been told that they have leeway to make pretty drastic changes if necessary.

Birmingham also talks about things such as the abundance of different versions of the game currently available, from retail World of Warcraft to three different versions of WoW Classic; his answer focuses on the idea that the team wants to expand the available audience for each and every seasonal server while ensuring that you can always play your “preferred” version of the game. Check out the transcript for more details on the current ongoing event server.

Activision-Blizzard is considered a controversial company in the MMO and gaming space owing to a long string of scandals over the last few years, including the Blitzchung boycott, mass layoffs, labor disputes, and executive pay fiasco. In the summer of 2021, the company was sued by the state of California for fostering a work environment riddled with sexual harassment and discrimination, the disastrous corporate response to which has further compounded Blizzard’s ongoing pipeline issues and the widespread perception that its online games are in decline. As of fall 2021, multiple state and federal agencies are currently investigating the company and the industry has called for Bobby Kotick’s resignation following fresh reports on his misdeeds.
