The National Opera Association has announced the winners for its 2020-21 Opera Production Competition.

This year’s competition was divided into eight divisions based on Undergraduate and Graduate levels. A total of 12 awards were given.

There was a tie for first place in Division I. Winners include Moores School of Music – University of Houston’s production of “A Hand of Bridge” and Western Michigan University’s “On Call: COVID-19.” Second place went to University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s “ATLAS” while third prize was given to a production of “Trouble in Tahiti” at Viterbo University.

First place in Division II went to Luther College’s “Dido and Aeneas” with Walnut Hill School for the Arts taking home second place for its selections from “The Little Prince, A Magical Opera.”

Opera McGills “The Turn of the Screw” won Division III with Purchase Opera’s “Dialogues of the Carmelites” taking home the top prize in Division IV. The winners of Division V and VI were California State University Northridge’s “L’Enfant et les sortilèges” and University of Wisconsin-Madison’s “What’s Past is Prologue: The Unfinished American Conversation,” respectively.

Finally, California State University Northridge’s “Gianni Schicchi” won Division VII while the Jacobs School of Music won Division VIII for its production of “The Turn of the Screw.”
