Once you do that, a pop-up window will appear, showing you three options. You can use the first and third to schedule a meeting, in a way, while the second one starts a meeting immediately. We’ll show you all three options below.

If you click on the “Create a meeting for later” option, a new pop-up window will appear. That window will give you a link that you can share with whoever is supposed to participate in the meeting. You can tap on the copy icon on the right to copy it.

If you click on the “Start an instant meeting” option, a meeting will begin immediately. You’ll be the only person in the meeting, and will be able to invite others from there, either via the “Add others” option (email), or by a link that will become available below it.

Choosing the “Schedule in Google Calendar” option will open a Google Calendar form, and allow you to alter quite a few things. You’ll be able to add guests, a description, and exact time for the meeting, and so much more. Once you’re done, click the “Save” button at the top.

How to start or schedule a meeting in Google Meet from your phone/tablet

If you want to start or schedule a meeting from your phone, the procedure is quite similar, actually. The first thing you need to do is launch the Google Meet app. Most of you will simply swipe up on the home screen, and find that app in the app drawer.

Once you tap it, you’ll be asked to select one of your Google accounts, if you’re logged into more than one on your phone. If not, you can skip this step.

A Google Meet app will open. Somewhere during this process, you’ll also be asked to give Google Meet several permissions, if you haven’t already. In any case, in the main menu of the Google Meet app, you’ll see the “New Meeting” button at the top. Press it.

In the pop-up menu, you’ll see the same three options as on the web client. We’ll show you all three down below.

If you tap the “Get a meeting link to share”, a meeting link will be created in a new pop-up window. You’ll be able to either copy it manually, or share it via the “Share invite” button.

Tapping the “Start an instant meeting” option will do just that, start a meeting immediately. You’ll be thrown into a video call, and you’ll be able to either copy a meeting link, or share it with your contacts via the “Share invite” button. You can use this option if people are already ready to join.

The last option on the list is accessible via the “Schedule in Google Calendar” button. If you do that, you’ll get a Google Calendar form, just like on the web client. This one looks a bit different, though, as it’s on your phone, but all the options are still there. Once you’re done tweaking, tap the “Save” button in the top-right corner.
