Highway 36 toward downtown St. Joseph reopened shortly after six o’clock this morning, after being shutdown overnight when a semi-tractor trailer overturned, blocking both westbound lanes.

A St. Joseph police officer was injured in a related crash within the hour of the truck overturning.

St. Joseph police report a semi-tractor trailer overturned in the west-bound lanes of Highway 36 near South 10th Street around midnight. The wreck blocked both westbound lanes for more than six hours. The westbound lanes of 36 reopened around 6:20 this morning. The truck driver was not injured.

About 45 minutes after the truck overturned, a vehicle traveling west on Highway 36 ran into an occupied St. Joseph police car that was parked near the 22nd Street exit, emergency lights flashing, to warn drivers of the wreck.
