The National Republican Congressional Committee is airing paid generic digital ads during Thanksgiving week targeting twelve House Democrats, including Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes).
Both sides – the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the NRCC – habitually create lists of incumbents they try to push into retirement in advance of the next election. Incumbents aren’t typically moved into retirement at the behest of the other side.
The ad, “The Most Expensive Thanksgiving Ever,” uses an image of Malinowski with President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Script: “This November, from the people who brought you the most expensive 4th of July in history., The sequel is even worse: This Thanksgiving, brace yourself for the highest grocery tab you’ve had in decades. Turkey. Rolls. Apple pie. Gas. Democrats reckless spending has made everything cost more. Tell Congressman Tom Malinowski we can’t afford this.”
“Every House Democrat has a choice to make over the Thanksgiving holiday: retire or lose,” said Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minnesota), the NRCC chairman. “So far 17 Democrats have made the smart choice to quit.”
Three Republicans have announced their intention to challenge Malinowski in New Jersey’s 7th district: Senate Minority Leader Tom Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield), former U.S. Senate candidate Rik Mehta, and John Henry Isemann, who left a job on Wall Street to run for Congress.
Malinowski is the only New Jersey Democrat facing ads against him from the NRCC this week.
Also on the list of House Democrats targeted with a Thanksgiving ad is Rep. Christopher Pappas (D-New Hampshire). Pappas faces a possible rematch for his seat with New Jerseyan Matt Mowers, a former aide to Gov. Chris Christie.
