Finding Alice and It's a Sin actress Keeley Hawes has started filming her newest project, a three-part BBC One drama from the writer of Apple Tree Yard and producers of The Salisbury Poisonings.
The drama is called Crossfire and is set on the Canary Islands, where Hawes' lead character Jo is on holiday with her family and friends. As she looks out across the balcony, she hears gunshots and her life suddenly changes forever.
Not only will the show focus on the split-second decisions that holidaymakers and hotel staff have to make, but also the lasting effects of the tragedy.
Production on the series has already begun, and the snap below gives us our first look at Hawes in character.
"I’m so excited to be embarking on this brilliantly compelling and propulsive drama for the BBC, especially as it’s the third production for Buddy Club," Hawes said, referencing her production company.
"Filming has already begun and we’re delighted to be collaborating with the team at Dancing Ledge Productions and Louise Doughty on her first original production for television."
BBC's Director of Drama, Piers Wenger, added: "Louise’s scripts crackle with adrenalin, intrigue and secrets kept among a long-standing group of friends. But amidst the action and emotion, Crossfire explores the consequences of the secrets we keep, the risks we take and the lies we tell to conceal them.
"This is a startling original piece of writing. We are thrilled to be working again with Louise and Dancing Ledge Productions, and to be welcoming back the unmissable Keeley Hawes to BBC One."
Crossfire also boars several other famous names, including Anneika Rose (Line of Duty), Josette Simon (Pokémon Detective Pikachu), Lee Ingleby (The Serpent Queen), Vikash Bhai (The Stranger), Shalisha James-Davis (I May Destroy You) and Ariyon Bakare (His Dark Materials).
