New Pixel 6 Update For Now Playing Will Add The Ability To Favorite Songs

According to a new report by 9to5Google, an upcoming Pixel update is set to introduce a few changes to Now Playing. Notably, it will bring a redesigned bottom bar along with the ability to favorite songs.

Google introduced the Pixel 6 series a few months ago, and since then the smartphones have gained mostly positive responses from the critics.

While the camera still needs some tuning, especially in the video recording department, overall the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro offer a nice package.

With the launch of Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, Google also introduced a few key features, limited to these devices. The Now Playing got the manual lookup capability, which acts as a search button on the home screen.

Fast forward to now, in an APK Insight post, the source has spotted a newly designed Now Playing favorites feature. It has been spotted in the latest version of the Android System Intelligence for Pixel 6.

However, one important thing to note here is that APK Insight posts give you a sneak peek at what the developers will possibly add in future releases of their apps. It is done by decompiling the latest version of an app.

Now Playing Favorites tab will list all the liked songs and it works passively in the background

This also means that there is no surety if the feature spotted during the decompilation will make its way to the stable release. In our case, Google may or may not bring the Now Playing Favorites tab in the future.

Coming back to the feature, the list in the History tab shows you a reverse-chronological feed. You will also notice each line is now accompanied by a heart.

You will also be able to save by using the “note next to the track name on your Lock Screen” and the “heart icon in a Now Playing notification.”

The Pixel 6 Now Playing Favorites tab will show you all the songs that you have liked. As noted by the source, Now Playing works passively in the background. So, it can store a lot of tunes or songs over a period of time.

This new feature was successfully enabled in the latest version of the Android System Intelligence available for Google Pixel 6. The Now Playing redesign was also visible in the latest version of the app.

It isn’t live for everyone yet. As of now, there is no clarity if Google will bring this new feature for everyone via an update or a server-side update. In fact, there is no word if this feature will make its way to the stable version or not.
