Jennifer Lawrence Shares Thoughts on Scarlett Johansson Black Widow Lawsuit

It might now be over but there was a time when people couldn't stop talking about the lawsuit Scarlett Johansson filed against Disney after Black Widow was given a digital release. However, Jennifer Lawrence has brought the issue up again as she shared her thoughts on the controversy.

We all know the story: Scarlett Johansson filed the lawsuit against Disney stating that Black Widow's digital release breached her contract and affected her box office performance bonus. Although the House of Mouse initially claimed that the Avengers: Endgame star was being "selfish", both parties have finally reached a settlement in September.

The lawsuit turned Johansson into an inspiration for other stars who were concerned about how a simultaneous release will affect their box office haul. As for Jennifer Lawrence, she told Vanity Fair that she admired Johansson for the ballsy move.

"I thought that was extremely brave," Lawrence said. She then shared her thoughts on Disney's decision on the simultaneous release.

"If two parties understand how a movie is going to be released, and then it turns out that one of the parties did not agree to that, that’s unfair," Lawrence stated. She then pointed out that she thought Johansson's move was even gutsier considering that she was in labor when the lawsuit was filed.

"She was also crowning! She was giving birth," Lawrence said.

We're not surprised that Lawrence is so impressed with Scarlett Johansson. After all, nobody expected anyone, least of all, a major Marvel star, would decide to sue Disney. We're just hoping that studios will follow contracts and decide against simultaneous releases in the future.

Lawrence is currently promoting her new film Don't Look Up, which boasts of an all-star cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Ron Perlman, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Scott Mescudi, Chris Evans, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep. The film will premiere on Netflix on December 24, 2021.
