Selene Zanetti & Piero Pretti Lead Teatro Palermo’s ‘Les Vêpres Siciliennes’

The Teatro Massimo di Palermos is set to open its 2022 season with Giuseppe Verdi’s “Les Vêpres Siciliennes.”

The new production will be conducted by Omer Meir Wellber and will be staged by Emma Dante. The production will mark the first time Palermo present the Verdi work in its five-act French version; this version of “Les Vêpres Siciliennes” will be co-produced with the Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, and Madrid’s Teatro Real.

The sets are by Carmine Maringola, costumes are by Vanessa Sannino, choreographic movements are by Sandro Maria Campagna, while the choreographies are by Manuela Lo Sicco and the light design is by Cristian Zucaro.

Selene Zanetti leads the case as the Duchesse Hélène with Piero Pretti as Henri, Mattia Olivieri as Guy de Montfort, and Luca Tittoto as Jean Procida. For the shows on Jan. 22 and 25, Maritina Tampakopoulos, Leonardo Caimi, Gezim Mishketa, and Fabrizio Beggi will star in the principal roles. Further roles are set to be interpreted by Irida Dragoti, Matteo Mezzaro, Francesco Pittari, Alessio Verna, Andrea Pellegrini, and Gabriele Sagona.

“Les Vêpres Siciliennes” will be performed five times from Jan. 20 to 26, 2022.
