After having his contract terminated on Monday afternoon by the Carolina Hurricanes, defenceman Éric Gélinas is expected to return to Sweden and sign with his former club, Rogle BK (SHL).

"Rögle is looking to to land an addition from North America. Éric Gélinas was on unconditional waivers by Carolina with the intention of terminating his contract - and he will soon be Rögle's player again," said Rasmus Kagstrom of HockeySverige.

The Vanier, Ontario native signed a one-year contract with the Hurricanes after deciding he wanted to return to North America. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for him as he spent his time with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL, tallying two goals in nine games.

"If Éric were to decide to terminate his contract and leave North America, then he has a contract with us. This is how it works with all players who leave in that situation, says Rogle BK general manager Chris Abbott . If they terminate the contract there, they have an existing contract in the SHL, from which they are on leave. With all the players moving to the NHL, there is a chance they can return."

Gélinas, 30, spent parts of the last three seasons with Rogle BK. In 90 career SHL games, he has 56 points (14 G, 42 A), 73 penalty minutes, and is a +20.
