New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones watched Sunday's game between the Carolina Panthers and Washington Football Team. After all, he couldn't miss it with his former teammate Cam Newton making his first start this season with the Panthers.

Jones has nothing but love for Newton, expressing how happy he is to see the veteran QB enjoying himself playing the game he loves. The Patriots rookie also highlighted how well Cam performed despite their eventual loss.

“He played great in that game. I know he’s enjoying it. He’s out there having fun being himself… When he was in there, he looked pretty good. He’s doing a great job. I know he’s having fun,” Jones told Merloni & Fauria on WEEI 93.7 FM.

The Panthers succumbed to the Washington Football Team 27-21, but as Mac Jones said it, Cam Newton played really well for his  team. The 32-year-old threw for two touchdowns and rushed for one to lead Carolina, though it was not enough to slow down Taylor Heinicke who had three touchdown passes for Washington.

Jones and Newton may have played together just briefly during the 2021 offseason, but it's clear they have a close relationship. Besides, Newton himself helped the youngster learned the Patriots' playbook despite the threat he possesses for him.

Sure enough, New England cut Newton before the season started to officially hand Jones the keys to the Patriots' offense. While that might not be a good sight, it is certainly great to see Jones still in full support of his mentor.
