Orioles' Trey Mancini named 2021 American League Comeback Player of the Year
Baltimore Orioles player Trey Mancini has been named the 2021 American League Comeback Player of the Year, Major League Baseball announced Monday.The Comeback Player of the Year Awards, sanctioned by the MLB, are presented annually to one player in each league who has re-emerged on the field during the season.Mancini, 27, was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2020. He had surgery to remove a malignant tumor from his colon and underwent six months of chemotherapy, causing him to miss the entire season.After overcoming those challenges, Mancini returned to the field in 2021, appearing in over 140 games for the Orioles and making several career highs. Mancini is the first Orioles player to bring the award home.
