It’s the season of giving and the 6th annual, ‘The Panhandle Gives Campaign,’ is channeling our area's generosity. Starting Monday and continuing through next Tuesday, donations are being collected for non-profits in the Texas Panhandle.
The Amarillo Area Foundation is hosting the event, Clay Stribling their president and CEO said 175 organizations across 20 counties in our region are participating in ‘The Panhandle Gives.’
“We have arts organizations, there are human services, feeding programs, there are faith-based organizations,” Stribling said.
You can find the list of the non-profits here. There, you can also donate to an individual organization or to the amplification fund which benefits all the non-profits.
“The amplification fund is a form of a matching fund. It's not dollar for dollar but we have raised about 580,000 dollars,” Stribling said. “Now we are hoping to see that grow but we will distribute that as a percentage based on how the organizations do.”
The Amarillo Area Foundation is covering online donation fees. So, 100% of your gifts are going to the local organizations.
“When you look at a heat map of the country and where people give the most compared to their income the Texas panhandle is always at the very top,” Stribling said. “We live in the most generous region in the United States and I firmly believe we always rise to the occasion. This community really supports its non-profits in a big way.”
Donors can also write a check made out to ‘The Panhandle Gives’ with the name of a non-profit in the memo line. They can be dropped off to any Amarillo National Bank, Happy State Bank or FirstBank Southwest, in the Texas panhandle. This year’s goal is to raise $3.6 million.
