New England Revolution's Matt Turner named 2021 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year
New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner is adding another honor to what has been a remarkable 2021 season.Turner was named the 2021 Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year on Monday, becoming the first Revolution goalie to win the award.The 27-year-old set a new New England club mark with 17 wins in the regular season, which was tied for the most in MLS in 2021. He recorded a 1.25 goals-against average and 73.2 save percentage over 28 starts with five shutouts.Turner helped the Revolution win their first MLS Supporters' Shield, given to the team with the most points at the end of the regular season. In the process, New England set an MLS record by finishing the regular season with 73 points (22 wins, 7 draws and 5 losses).Revolution head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena made the announcement to Turner in front of the rest of the team during Monday's practice session.Turner, who started playing keeper at the age of 14, also had an excellent year outside of his play with the Revolution.He was named Most Valuable Player of the 2021 MLS All-Star Game after he saved two penalties in the MLS All-Stars' shootout win over the LIGA MX All-Stars. He also made two penalty saves in a New England uniform in 2021, which was tied for the second-most in the league this year.Turner also emerged as one of the top goalies for the U.S. Men's National Team after making his international debut in January. He had a record of 9 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss in 12 starts for the U.S. He was named the best goalkeeper of the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup after posting five shutouts in six games. He also started the national team's first five games in the final round of CONCACAF 2022 World Cup Qualifying.Three other members of the Revolution have been nominated for the 2021 MLS Year-End Awards. Midfielder Carles Gil is up for both the Landon Donovan MLS MVP and MLS Comeback Player of the Year awards. Midfielder Tajon Buchanan is a finalist for AT&T MLS Young Player of the Year. Arena is a finalist for the Sigi Schmid MLS Coach of the Year award.The winners will be announced over the coming weeks, culminating in the presentation of the MLS MVP award in early December during the week of the MLS Cup Final.The Revolution received a first-round bye in the 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs after earning the top seed in the Eastern Conference. New England will play fourth-seeded New York City in the Conference Semifinal round at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 30.

Three other members of the Revolution have been nominated for the 2021 MLS Year-End Awards. Midfielder Carles Gil is up for both the Landon Donovan MLS MVP and MLS Comeback Player of the Year awards.
